Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 April 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was leader of the 2012 "Fierce Five", and"Fierce Five" in 2016 "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She received a gold medal in team competition at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas, her teammate, also won gold. Raisman also earned silver medals for individual all-around and floor exercise. She is the third most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, just behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also on the gold-winning American teams in the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist of the world on floor exercise in 2011. She is also the two-time national champion of floor exercise (2012,2015) in 2012, and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam and five-time medalist at the national championships in the all around (silver in 2016 and silver in 2012, 2011 (2012), and in 2013 and 2015). Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), the former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, has stated that she takes a lot pride in the fact that she is able to represent the United States of America but as well as the Jewish community throughout the world. "Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal at 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8. She then moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was instructed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year via online classes and training for the Olympics.
