Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 11/01/2015) was a Swedish
actress, well-known for her attractive and striking physique. She became
prominent in her role in the role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La
Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg predominantly worked in Italy where she became a
permanent residence in the year 1964. Anita Ekberg was the sixth of eight
children. As a teenager, Anita worked as a fashion model. Ekberg upon the
request by her mother, in 1950, entered Miss Malmo. It resulted in her winning
the Miss Sweden contest. Despite not speaking fluent English She travelled to
the United States to compete to get the Miss Universe title for 1951. Although
it was an informal contest, the official pageant became formalized in 1952.
Ekberg wasn't the Miss Universe winner, but she was one of six semi-finalists.
She did , however, earn an endorsement from Universal Studios as a starlet.
Ekberg was an Universal starletin which she learned drama, elocution and
dancing. She appeared briefly in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and
Costello (as the woman in Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade
(1953).
